Oh man.

So I've had a lot of design, web, marketing, production, and "blog talk" in the last 24 hours. It's driving me to POST. This is going to be more of a writing post, so bare with me.

Let's start off with all the things that have passed in and out of my head this morning (don't judge me)...

Question: Did you know that Koalas have 2 thumbs???

Well, I didn't and its super interesting to me (well maybe I DID, but I don't remember that stuff, isn't that the whole purpose of "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader"???).

I Skyped with my ex early this morning.

He lives in France. JEALOUS.

There is something insanely amazing about having a great relationship with your ex.

But equally amazing knowing that neither of us can barge into each other's life unless through some form of technology and/or correspondence...you know what I'm sayin'?

I mean, DAMN, Blake, step off the "I'm so freakin' special, look at me, look at me" train and grab...shit, what's her name in real life???...ugh, great...Grab your co-star's :/ hand already and pull her onto to your "center stage" train! There has got to be room for at least one more, right???

B.) I think about my grandmother a lot. It makes me happy and it makes me sad. I started to prepare a post to share with everyone how AWESOME her style was while she was still alive. Haven't had the guts to do it yet.

I'll work on that.

C.) It's not always about fashion and photos. At the end of the day, IT'S JUST CLOTHES. I'm trying to live in the moment MORE.

D.) Sometimes I fear that I'm working so hard while my life is traveling past me. Catch 22. I hate Catch 22's.

E.) There are a few people that I desperately miss, but I'm too embarrassed to tell them.

To kick off the fall season, Williamsburg’s Gitana Rosa Gallery, refracts the male gaze.

Hung, a multimedia exhibition, hones in on the male nude. A heroic figure in Greek, Roman and Renaissance art, the male nude proves more fascinating than ever. Whether relegated to obscurity or exalted past recognition, men’s bodies continue to challenge both men’s and women’s perceptions.

Love them or hate them, Hung’s male nudes tease the line between the sensuous and the glaringly obvious to present a nuanced portrait of the contemporary male.

The exhibition runs from Friday, September 17th – October 16th, 2010. Opening night will be sponsored by Hangar One Vodka, Kraken Rum and Brooklyn Brewery. I actually didn't give a shit about this line while looking at these photos.

The colors alone are so beautiful, its distracting...but I always research what I post and the collection is actually GREAT.

Very simplistic with a bit of an edge. The look book doesn't capture a lot of the collection, but each photo captures a color that exists in it.

I like this idea.

Kristen McMenamy is going to be 46 years old this year (Dec. 13th).

She is a working model...obviously.

But she's FORTY FIVE.

I think this is extremely badass.

I love the idea of using natural disaster as inspiration to create beautiful things...also, to help raise awareness across the world...its beautiful.

I've pulled so many images this year on the oil spill. Some of them are insanely beautiful shots...the colors that were created, just nuts.

Although I cried while I looked at them, I've been completely inspired by them as well.

Wowzas.

I never thought that when I quit my job last year (designing a private label for Target) that things would come together so well...

I guess when you're little you think everything IS possible and that you CAN do or be whatever you want.

Then somewhere around puberty and high school we all get a little "lazy" or "partied"...or prohibited by the idea of actual work...? Whatever it may be, it seems a lot of people I know/knew left their dreams back in the their childhood. Now those dreams seem "crazy" to chase all these years later.

(Aunt Kristen sounds a little full of herself, eh?)

I have to admit, I was there at one time...I mean, I was a business management major. We're talking accounting, economics, marketing, statistics, etc.! I did just fine, I was emerged in that for a year and a half...then I considered slitting my wrists with the razor blade of boredom.

*(a.k.a. "the razor blade of boredom).

I transfered, I moved, I had no friends, I discovered a fashion program, I graduated, I did what I wanted to since I was a little girl...oh yeah, and a long the way I've made an insane amount of great friends <3

I always thought I would make clothes, design clothes, and first and foremost appreciate clothing as a form of art.

I like pushing the limits without being tacky...well, I guess thats all in the eye of the beholder, right?

Well, how about recycling fashion?

I'm not talking thrifting or buying vintage, but actually RECYCLING clothing into NEW clothing.

I've wanted to do this since I was in design school...all my projects were modeled after this idea. Back then I refereed to it as Reconstructed Vintage...I even owned the website for a couple years! The idea was originally inspired by my sister, Brittney. Her keen eye on tailoring vintage pieces that she stopped wearing, in order to make new pieces, was awesome. That way she didn't have to buy new clothes (we didn't always have money for things like that).

I LOVED it, I thought it was genius. Mind you, this was pre "Urban Renewal" and "Super Lucky Cat".

*We cut and sew everything ourselves.

*We recycle almost every scrap from every garment, so don't be surprised if you later see one of these fabrics as a skirt, a pocket, or a sleeve.

*We only add few fabrics and trims to the garments...and they are all leftovers from other lines.

*Recycling was instilled in us since we were very small and its very important to me.

*We love vintage, especially when tailored to "fit" the current era.

*We are 2 years apart.

*Brittney quit her job to come home and make this happen.

*Our younger sister Kara does any seam ripping we need (thanks Kay Bay Bay).

*Every piece is a unique individual...like us...and each girl who buys it <3

How many sisters imagined starting a band together, being princesses...or my case, anything famous (although I never told ANYONE that), marrying princes...or better yet, marrying twins and living next door to each other? (that one is nutso, but it happened cause I heard it come out of some girls mouths), traveling the world together, becoming a roller skating due legend (I, also, really wanted this one to happen), joining a traveling circus together...we actually halfway did that :/

For some reason these things have always interested me. Not because I want to be in one (duh), but because they always seem so mysterious. Where I grew up there was this rumor of an abandoned asylum...I knew some kids that had been to it, but they were super spooked and never talked about it...whatEVER, right?

Welllllllll,

my friends decided we needed to go...of course, right?

Right.

So we did and I'm not going to lie when I say that it was screwed.

There was a huge blood stain on the ceiling and weird mattresses in each room. Pretty much everything gross looking on them...use your imagination. Anyhow we went during the middle of the night, for "extra scare effect" ;)

I love it/hated it.

Soooooooo then...

right after I graduated high school I worked a retail job (among other jobs and college)and I was telling my co-workers about it. I said I thought I could find it by how my friends had described. Thus starting "mission: find the insane asylum #2".

Wheeeeeew, we found it

Only it wasn't it...it was another creepy place. Half eroded and crumbled. Again we were there in the middle of the night...this time with alcohol. Dang-get.

There was an ENORMOUS tree next to it. Looked like this, but much fuller and almost all the branches drooped to the ground...

Co-workers: "I'm not going in there", "well, I'm not going in first!", "I'm a girl, so I'm definitely NOT going first!".

Bre: "FINE, geez, you guys are babies, I'll go".

What the hell was I thinking?!...I'm pretty sure it was "annoyed", but whatever.

Yep, you guessed it...flashlight stopped working as soon as I ducked under those branches into that evil tree huddle from hell.

They were yelling my name to make sure I was okay. For some reason I didn't answer, well, because it was scary as shit in there and I could hear something rustling in the brush. So instead I decided to scream. Not because I was scared, but because I wanted to scare them...I'm such a bitch. I thought it was hilarious! I screamed like a banchi and then stood super still and quite. Waited a minute. And SCREAMED again!...came running out of the tree, bursting through the branches!

Oh man, it was so funny...one of the girls was crying.

I think.

We'll go with that cause it sounds better.

Ain't no snot of Fuzzy Navel gonna cool those nerves.

I found these beautiful photos of asylums all around the US and they're quite beautiful, sadly.

I've always liked chipped paint in photographs...for some reason.

This is not a million cans of soup or something, but

hundreds of unclaimed urns.

I think this would be a great backdrop for a photoshoot...exactly the way it is. Sooo beautiful.

This one made me sad.

As if they were ever going to need those again.

Did I mention I love scary movies and often think about how I would survive at any given moment if something/anything horrible were to happen...?

Morbid, I know, but I like to think of it as being prepared...?

SWEATER: Nortwick men's (from Treasury Dept.).

BOOTS: Vintage.

SOCKS/STOCKINGS: Target (the socks I've had for years...they were ahead of their time...and the stockings were tights, but I cut them off. I do that a lot). My garter belt was actually from Target as well.

JEWELS: Bracelets were my Momma's, passed down. Black cross necklace is vintage and the rosary I picked up on some vacation somewhere. The neon bracelet is a shoe string from when I was a kid...prolly from some L.A. Gears, BOOM.

My good friend, Lindsay, did my hair wrap a couple weeks ago and I'm in love with it.

And to top it off, I've been doing my makeup like a pixie fairy lately...I have no idea where its coming from or why, but I'm apparently really into it.

I've always been interested in Pippi Longstocking as a character, but some how she has completely filled my imagination lately. All I want to do is dress like a version of her...maybe mixed with a little bit of the orphans that little orphan Annie used to run with. Of course its all mixed with a TON of me...hence the sequins and the cross necklaces. Anyhow, I hope this inspires the orphan in you :)
